As last year, Montford cottage has been an ideal base. Warm, comfortable and what a situation. Happy just to sit and watch the sea and sky. A great holiday.
The cottage was perfect. The views phenomenal! We saw a giant cruiseship sail past, a few submarines, the Waverley, a container ship or two, and multiple wee boats. The otter visited and the swans sat on the beach for a day or two. Never a dull moment. Thank you!
Had a lovely week in Montford Cottage. The weather was lovely. Bute is a great place to explore. Great to spend our days on the beach and our evenings watching the wildlife. We saw a seal, otter and a porpoise. Lots of lovely family memories. We will be back.
Montford Cottage was perfect for our needs as a family with 2 small children and the views are amazing! Its worth scrambling over the rocks to the beach too. Idyllic. Thank you and we’ll definitely be back again.
Our 4th visit to Bute but our first to Montford Cottage. What a beautiful house. Everything you could possibly want and feels like a family home, which it is. What total peace and tranquillity we have enjoyed. I walked into Rothesay one morning and saw 4 cars and a bus! We would love to come back and will treasure the memories we have made this week.
It was our first time on Bute and this was a great place to stay. An amazing place and a wonderful cottage. Animals, boats, planes and submarine spotting! Mountstuart awesome! We love the art in the cottage. Great, well-stocked kitchen. Thanks so much, it was Bute-iful!

I have been visiting Bute for nearly 63 years, first as a babe in arms in 1954, and still have family living on the island. For the last 36 years, my wife and I have maintained our ties with Bute, enjoying the island with our own children when they were young and latterly on our own. There are very few parts of Bute we do not know and our family history dates back to the late 1700s. This cottage is, without doubt, one of the best we have stayed in. Warm, comfortable in the depths of winter and extremely well-appointed. The view is superlative. I’m sure we will be back again soon. If you’re lucky, you might spot an otter on the shore here.
The cottage has been perfect and we have liked listening to, and smelling the water, watching the twinkly lights across the bay and watching the boats and wildlife float by. We have relaxed, reading, playing cards in the garden and cracking open the tin of pirates. Thank you for sharing Montford Cottage with us. We are all looking forward to our next summer holiday already.
We’ve had a great week on Bute in Montford Cottage. Our 3rd stay here. An added bonus has been having my bike with me this week and being able to cycle around the island each morning, come rain or shine!
Just spent a wonderful week here as an extended family and quite comfortably too! Having grown up on the island I’m bringing my girls here and they are just catching the Bute bug. Possibly the most beautiful setting imaginable. The décor is lovely – the photos on Trip Advisor don’t do it justice, but the 5 Star reviews certainly do! We’ll be back.

We have been coming to the Isle of Bute since 1990 as we have family living here. However, I can honestly say that Montford Cottage is the most beautiful place to stay on the Island. The constantly changing scenery and stunning wildlife is beautiful. In addition, the artistic décor is cleverly put together and makes the cottage very homely.
Thank you for this lovely house and the varying sky and sea was delightful.

Wonderful to drop off to sleep to the sound of the waves lapping on the beach. Lovely to be able to gaze at the sea from the windows. High point was a lone seal by the beach early this morning.

Have passed this cottage many times over the years so it was a treat to see inside. Cosy, comfortable, thoughtfully decorated – really enjoyed our week here. Happy days.
This cottage was more than just a place to stay. We have fallen in love with it and will always think of it fondly. We will share our adventures with family back home in the USA and describe it lovingly as our little white cottage that sits on the banks of the Clyde. We will remember the warmth of the sun, the sound of the waves, and the beauty of its backyard view.
Don’t want to go and leave this mesmerising view! Hours of reading, BBQs out in the sun, still light after 10pm gazing out of the windows. A great retreat from the City life… the cottage itself is beautiful, warm and friendly décor and has every facility needed. The location could not be better – maybe next time we will bring our grown up pirates!
We’ve had many self-catering holidays over the years but the location of the cottage is quite breathtaking. Definitely the best views we’ve ever experienced. No wonder Kate and Jack fell in love with its position, perched on the rocks.

We love your cottage and feel so relaxed and rested here. The children slept so well and very much enjoyed being so close to the sea.
The cottage has a lovely homely feel, amazing sea views from every window. Our son loved looking out for the boats. The enclosed garden is fantastic for an energetic toddler and the additional beach to venture down to.
Lovely evening strolls with the lights twinkling across the bay. Walked up Balmory Lane for a timeless feel. As if history had stood still. We are sad to leave Bute and especially Montford Cottage. It is a very special place.
Delighted to enter a much loved cottage. We enjoyed the afternoon in the garden, chilling, enjoying the spectacular views. Cooking here is a pleasure- to have that view even washing up! Slept like 2 logs. Our grandchildren will visit at the end of the week. They will love this. I hope to come back to Montford Cottage. May God bless this lovely home and all who enter.
