The Isle of Bute

The Isle of Bute lies in Scotland's Firth of Clyde, tucked into the spectacular sea lochs of southern Argyll, just north of Arran, and is easily accessible by regular ferry services from the mainland. We are about 90 minutes from Glasgow. There are two ferry access ports to the island.

Wemyss Bay - Rothesay

The principal route to the island is by car and passenger ferry from Wemyss Bay, which has a rail connection to Glasgow. Crossing takes around 35 minutes.

Colintraive - Rhubodach

A 5 minute ferry crossing at the north end of the island. The road to Glasgow takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in Argyll.

Mount Stuart House

Bute has many interesting places to visit from the majestic Mount Stuart House, family seat of the Marquess of Bute, just 2 miles south of Montford Cottage, to Rothesay Castle with its close association with the Stewart Kings of Scotland.

Rothesay

The main town of Rothesay is 3 miles away and has plenty of facilities including a small cinema, swimming pool, Visitors Centre, shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There is a lovely putting green on the front which is open in high season.
